Nebraska Natural

Custom-built home: Nebraska Natural

Welcome to the Nebraska Natural!

Many of our clients share Pinterest boards of ideas or bring us images of homes that they like particular pieces of. These clients brought in a photo of a home that they wanted to emulate…and it happened to be one that we had built (Modern Prairie Home). They liked the architectural features: clean lines but not too modern in the sense that it was very casual, warm, and inviting. These clients also wanted to incorporate natural elements together, like interior stone and woods.

Marshall went to work designing lines of architecture that were edgy–blurring the lines of casual/rustic and modern. This gave it uniqueness even though it draws the influence of prairie style architecture. The clients wanted to live on the main level, so this home lives like a ranch with some secondary bedrooms and a bonus room for their remaining teenage daughter. Because the client had lots of very unique art features, we designed specific wall spaces and areas for their sculpture and art pieces.

In this custom built home, Marshall liked to blur the lines between outside and in: bringing glass very close to brick columns (which is then both inside and outside the house), the cedar tongue-and-groove ceiling inside continues on the underside of the overhang transoms outside (see the great room photos), and so on.

The Nebraska Natural actually has no formal room in the house. When you look at the front entry way and interior entry way, you’ll see the same flagstone continuing through to the back patios and terrace. We used the basics–usage of stone, wood, and metal throughout–to attain this look. The sunroom is also heated and air conditioned, and the 3 seasons room doors and windows all open up.
